Technical Information - Measures

This page describes each of the measures reported in the Actigraphy Sleep Toolkit.

Sleep Bout

A Sleep Bout is a continuous period of measured sleep behaviour.

Rest Start Time

The Rest Start Time is the 'bed time' as recorded by a participant using a sleep diary or scored by a clinician.

Rest End Time

The Rest End Time is the 'rise time' as recorded by a participant using a sleep diary or scored by a clinician.

Rest Interval

The Rest Interval is the elapsed time between the Rest Start Time and the Rest End Time.

Sleep Onset Time

The Sleep Onset Time is the start time of the first Sleep Bout in the Rest Interval.

Sleep End Time

The Sleep End Time is the 'waking time' and defined as the end time of the last Sleep Bout in the Rest Interval.

Sleep Interval

The Sleep Interval is the elapsed time between the Sleep Onset Time and the Sleep End Time.

Total Sleep Duration

The Total Sleep Duration is the sum of the Sleep Bout durations within the Sleep Interval.

Total Nap Duration

The Total Nap Duration is the sum of Sleep Bout durations outside the Rest Interval.

Nap Count

The Nap Count is the number of Sleep Bouts outside the Rest Interval.

WASO Duration

The Wake After Sleep Onset (WASO) Duration is the sum of durations between Sleep Bouts in the Sleep Interval.

WASO Count

The Wake After Sleep Onset (WASO) Count is the number of intervals between Sleep Bouts in the Sleep Interval (or count of Sleep Bouts in the Sleep Interval minus one).

Sleep Efficiency

The Sleep Efficiency is the percentage of the Total Sleep Duration within the Rest Interval.

Sleep Onset Latency

The Sleep Onset Latency is the elapsed time between the Rest Start Time and the Sleep Onset Time.

Sleep Offset Latency

The Sleep Offset Latency is the elapsed time between the Sleep End Time and the Rest End Time.

Night of Date

The Night of Date is the date assigned to the 24-hour period following the user-defined daily start hour (CutTime24Hr). The date is set from the beginning of this period. The default for sleep analysis is 15:00, average mid-wake time, to centre sleep behaviours in the period.
