An introduction to the Actigraphy Sleep Toolkit

Quick Guide

Click on an item below to find out how to create, edit and print sleep reports.
Create a report
From the Reports page click Create Report to open a Create Actigraphy Sleep Report popup window. Within this window click Select AWD file to upload a file.

Once the file is successfully uploaded, file details are provided with analysis options that have been given default values. You may change these values to suit your analysis requirements (which will then become the initial values used for future reports). You can find out more about each analysis option by hovering over the information icon of each analysis option. When happy with your selection, click on Create Report.
Set analysis options
Options can be set when creating a new report from the Reports page. When a file is successfully uploaded, file details are provided along with analysis options and a display option that have all been given default values. You may change these values to suit your analysis requirements (which will then become the initial values used for future reports). You can find out more about each analysis option by hovering over the information icon of each analysis option. When happy with your selection, click on Create Report. To better understand how modifying analysis options impacts sleep analysis, refer to the Technical Information: Algorithm section.
Set report options
Report options control how charts are presented in the report, making it easier to view and interpret activity patterns. Currently, the only available report option is the Activity Scale, which adjusts the y-axis of the activity chart in the actogram.

You can choose between two modes:

  • Auto: Automatically scales the y-axis based on the maximum activity value in your data file. This is the default setting.
  • Custom: Allows you to specify a maximum value for the y-axis, which is saved and will be available the next time you select Custom.
The report option affects only how the data is visualised; it does not impact sleep detection or other analysis results. To adjust analysis parameters, use the Analysis Options section instead. Hover over the information icon next to the report option for a quick explanation. When you have set the parameters, click on Create Report.
Add a rest interval
There are two methods to add a rest interval – interactively with mouse clicks on the charts or adding an interval from start and end times.

With both methods, a complete rest interval is identified by a light blue shading. The sleep interval is represented by a dark blue shading within the rest interval. The sleep interval is automatically calculated within the rest interval.
Add a rest interval interactively
Left click once on an area of each chart to set the start of a rest interval. Left click a second time on the chart to set the end of a rest interval.
Add a rest interval from start and end times
Click on the Add Interval button. A pop up will appear allowing for date and time of Rest Interval Start and Rest Interval End to be changed. Confirm the rest interval by clicking Add.
Modify a rest interval
To modify a rest interval, left click once on any shaded area (light or dark blue). A pop up will appear with options to adjust the start or end of the rest interval. To confirm any changes made to interval start or end times, click on Update to save changes.
Delete a rest interval
To delete a rest or sleep interval, left click once on any shaded area (light or dark blue). A pop up will appear. Click on Delete Rest Interval to delete the interval.
Remove an incorrect start
If a start time is selected and needs to be removed, use the Cancel Current Edit button. This removes the single red vertical line. Proceed with interval selection as usual.
Remove all intervals
To remove all intervals in all charts, use the Clear Intervals button.
View sleep statistics and preview the report
Click Preview Report from the Edit Report page to calculate and display sleep statistics and view the final report. Additional notes may be entered in the Interpretation Notes area.
Print the report
When in Preview Report mode, click on Print/Save Report, select the required printer and click Print.
Save a PDF report
When in Preview Report mode, click on Print/Save Report. Then select Save as PDF from printer settings (or a similar option, depending on your browser) and click Save.
Save a CSV report
Sleep statistics can be exported as a CSV report with Export CSV Report.
Edit the report after Preview/Print
When in Preview Report mode, you may go back and make changes to your intervals with any of the following:
  • Using the browser back button
  • Going back to the reports page and selecting the report to edit
  • Clicking on Edit Report at the top of the page
View or edit a previous report
The Reports page lists the 15 most recent reports created in your web browser. To view or edit one of these, click on the report row in the reports list to open the Edit Report page.
